Judging from the current Love cover, the illustrious magazine isn’t quite through 2011 & 2012′s imaginary creatures as fashion icons thing. For the tome’s 5th anniversary, the powers-that-be have taken their spin on the famous Herb Ritts’ Madonna in mouse ears shoot sans the pop diva.
The result is a series of six covers featuring models Cara Delevingne, Georgia May Jagger, Edie Campbell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Chiharu Okunugi all sporting Minnie Mouse ears, as well as the Disney icon herself.
To add another haute couture element, the mouse-ear headbands used in the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot snapped shoot were the offerings of such illustrious designers as Gucci, Miu Miu, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Love editor Katie Grand blamed Instagram for the inspiration. “As work began on this issue, that famous Herb Ritts shot of Madonna popped up on my Instagram feed, the one where she’s in bed wearing the Minnie Mouse ears,” Grand claimed. “So we set about getting my favorite models in Minnie Mouse ears. . . . But that wasn’t enough. We had to get Minnie Mouse herself in on the act too.”

In the realm of beauty, fictional characters with a little pop-cultural clout almost seem to have a place. Certainly with the spate of cosmetic collection meets cartoons (i.e. Minnie Mouse polish, Disney Villians makeup capsules, and Miss Piggy‘s sartorial resurgence) that we’ve seen popping up over the past two-years… it almost seems natural that these iconic characters get their luxe life due. But Sponge Bob? Really? Yes.
And despite the seeming disconnect between product and spokesman, Rescue Beauty Lounge‘s release of a three-color Sponge Bob Squarepants collaboration are surprisingly adorable. Think a trio of pretty summer hues honoring Mr. Squarepants and his friends. The collection is from L to R: Square Pants, Bikini Bottom and Starfish-Patrick ($18).
Minnie finally gets her mani-pedi, mini-collection!
We wonder if Minnie Mouse looked around at all of the other fictional characters that beat her to the beauty punch and had a sudden fit of “what about me?!” With Spider-Man, Miss Piggy and the Disney Villains all claiming their stake in the cosmetics line world, it seems only fitting that Miss Mouse would feel a tinge of jealousy, right? No more.
Beloved nail brand, OPI has revealed it’s latest collaboration of four new colors inspired and named after Mickey‘s gal pal… all in shades of pink. Aptly titled, If You Moust You Moust (a creamy shade of pink), I’m All Ears (hot pink), The Color of Minnie (just this side of red), and Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It, (chock-full of chunky pink heart-shaped glitter), this collection screams girlish glamour–which seems appropo for the polka-dot frocked and bow-dazzled beauty. Look for this collection on store shelves next month… a perfect pairing for all of springs neon hues.read more
From Cindy Sherman to Miss Piggy to Disney Villains (think Queen Malificent and Cruella de Vil), M.A.C. has certainly teamed up with a bevy of dress-up diva’s — and it’s latest collaboration effort takes the cake. Fashion and Pop-Culture icon Daphne Guinness has paired with the famed-brand to create a 24-piece cosmetics line.
With her skunked-out style and haute couture appeal, you might expect a collection of overly-dramatic hues, but the collection actually looks extremely wearable. Comprised of soft pink blushes, brown eyeliners and flattering deep red and mauve lipsticks, the colors — according to a press release — “[are] as sophisticated, authentic and refined as Daphne herself.”read more
