A GRASSY GREEN NEUTRAL
In this season dominated by neutrals, from couture to footwear to cosmetics, a dark-horse in the ‘wear me’ nail color contest has made itself a front runner, beating out the nudes and even the oh-so-chic grays. It’s green – from the first pale shoots of the garden to green apple, these muted greens are the go-to-gal for a spring mani or pedi (or both!) Here’s who’s doing it best:
Drug store go-to brand Essie has put forth possibly the most lovely and tender green-ish hue to ever grace your digits with it’s Nail Polish in ‘Da Blush’ ($8). Think the slightest hint of grass green in a blush-like neutral. A perfect compliment to the ballerina pink and nude hues so coveted right now.
Two minty shades make springs list of ‘must haves’ in tones that are a shade truer to an actual color. Matesse Elite Nail Enamel in ‘Turks Blue’ ($5.99) and MAC Nail Lacquer in ‘Mischievous Mint’ ($14) are both excellent choices for those leaning more toward the onslaught of spring 2011 bold colors than softer neutrals.
Another variation on this trend is a greenish-yellow (think the youthful insides of a spring plants new shoots) hue both with and without a sparkly finish. Illamasqua Nail Lacquer in ‘Radium’ ($14) perfectly pulls off this gorgeous tone in a modern monochromatic fashion, while Butter London 3 Free Lacquer in ‘Dosh’ ($14) plays on the yellow-ish/ green hue with a touch of golden sparkles emulating the sun off of a summer sand – a beach compliment to be sure.
