Carine Roitfeld Leaving French Vogue

It’s the end of the year and the end of an era. If you haven’t heard the big news already, Carine Roitfeld is stepping down from her position as editor-in-chief of French Vogue. The announcement was followed Friday with shock from many and gossip from some.

To quell those nasty rumors, Roitfeld sat down with Cathy Horyn and dished. “It’s ten years that I’m editor of the magazine,” she explained. “I think it’s time to do something different. Understandable…I guess. Still not convinced.

Horyn proceeded to pick away at an archive interview and found this quote in New York’s 2008 spring fashion issue to sum the situation up: “I never think about this career, this big job,” Roitfeld says. “I never wanted to be what I am today, and I will not die in the position.” Now, it all makes a little more sense. What will Ms. Roitfeld do next? “I have no plans,” she calmly states.

Until then, we heard she’ll stay on through January while Conde Nast announces a replacement. Au revoir Mademoiselle. You will be missed.

YSL’s White Lipstick

The creative geniuses over at YSL have just released a new collection entitled Rouge Pur Couture, which showcases 18 elegant lipstick shades inspired by the iconic designer’s favorite Marrakesh color palette. Included in the mix is Blanc, a white lipstick that defies convention. The wintry white formula goes on sheer with a subtle hint of silvery shimmer; it’s a perfect pick to tone down a vibrant red or add a little extra shine to lips au naturale. Who said you can’t wear white after Labor Day? We say go for it!

Tied To Be Fit

Last night at the Country Strong screening in Beverly Hills, Gwynnie donned a scan-da-lous Emilio Pucci reminiscent of Elizabeth Hurley and the safety pins, circa Hugh Grant. It’s not necessarily that the dress was backless (which it was) or that the side slit went up to there, but the combo of the two. Was it too much? Is it appropriate for a mother of two? Weigh in Posh Beauties and let us know if you’d dare to bare on the red carpet.

Shiseido Virtual Makeup Stimulator

Shiseido Makeup Stimulator

Japan’s top cosmetic company, Shiseido, is breaking new beauty barriers with an innovative design called the makeup stimulator. Described as “the department store of the future,” this chic gadget bypasses typical beauty counters and replaces them with hassle-free virtual makeovers using a real-time image of the consumer.

“This is the first time to be able to do this with moving images instead of still images,” said Shiseido spokesman Shigesato Kobayashi. “Women can apply and reapply different kinds of color without having to use make-up remover and compare the results instantly.”

Of course, this isn’t meant to be a substitute for the talented makeup artists who have a keen eye for color matching and product knowledge. But if you’re in a time crunch, it sure beats the wrist test. We think of it more like an added accessory that compliments the whole experience and a way to test new trends without any strings attached.

The makeup stimulator is available at Selfridges now and will expand into 12 European markets. For more information, call +44 (0) 207-313-4774.

Shoes of Prey

There’s nothing like the rush of slipping on the perfect shoe. The journey to get there, however, is a different story. Endless stores, out of stock sizes, and a mob scene of barefoot women brandishing 4 1/2 inch heels in the air is what you tend to see instead. To save you from the time and stress of the hunt, head over to our friends at Shoes of Prey for instant gratification.

Shoes of Prey is an online e-tailer where you can design your own handmade shoes–everything from the fabric to the heel to the added doodads on the toe. If you have trouble tracking down hard-to-find sizes, you’ve met your match. They’ve got you covered in European sizes 31-49. Are you in need of narrow or wide widths? This site is for you too!

Prices are as follows: ballet flats $180, mid-heels $230, 4.5 inch heels $280, and ankle boots $330. Shipping is $25 and takes up to 5-6 weeks for delivery, but don’t let that discourage you. It’s worth it once you open your box and unwrap the holy grail of shoes.
