In the world of high-end, plus-size models, one Ms. Robyn Lawley is at the top of her game. We’re not talking about the countless major magazine covers the stunner has graced (French Elle, Vogue Australia and Vogue Italia.) Nor are we referring to her flaunting her curves as the face of Brit brand Boux Avenue’s much-lauded lingerie campaign. No, today we refer the Lawley’s success in different terms, namely as Ralph Lauren’s very first plus-size campaign model.
Joining the ranks of Lauren’s typical stable of models, Lawly’s signing with the brand has the industry buzzing about whether or not this will help legitimize the plus-size fashion industry—essentially ensuring that more couture labels will start designing plus-size fashions and featuring plus-size models in their big campaigns. Upon yesterday’s announcement, Lawly proudly told Good Morning America about her most recent coup, flaunting her 6’2″, size 12 figure—a far cry from Lauren’s regulars who typically weigh in at about a size 2. When asked if she thought that her joining the all-american brand would be the start of us seeing more plus-size models enjoying these high-end and coveted gigs, she remained optimistic. “I hope so.” Lawley said. “I hope, I’m sure we will see. You know there’s so many plus-size models in New York doing so well in the moment, and it’s only going to get better.”
One (more) small step for Lawley, one giant step for plus-size model-kind.

Amidst all the talk of fall 2012′s dark neutrals and spring 2013 prints, it seems designer Gucci designer Frida Giannini strategically played the contrarian—and still came out on top!
Gucci’s Spring 2013—recently revealed at Milan Fashion Week—is all about solids. We’re talking a collection dominated by solid bright hues like fuchsia, yellow, coral, cobalt blue, teal and kelly green. And what a rainbow it was, adorning chic pantsuits, highly ruffled dresses and caftans. The structures and cuts were reminiscent of a glamorous summer night in the 70′s without being completely tied to the era, which was accentuated by the layering of bold, chunky jewelry.
Oh sure, there were a few pieces featuring prints, including snow leopard and reptile patterns, but the styling was so in-line with the rest of the monochromatic crew, that they seemed to fall right in line with the rest. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t show you this most elegant of long black frocks… *sigh.

The race is heating up… oh, don’t pretend you don’t know what race we’re talking about. With the Republican and Democratic conventions behind us, and the impending vote getting closer and closer, President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney are counting on their “friends in high places” to help them win the election. For Obama, that means Beyonce.
The singer is pulling out all the stops in support of the President, and keeping it all in the family. Not only did she and Jay-Z host a recent New York City fundraiser on Monday, but she’s (in collaboration with mom Tina Knowles also designed a three-pack of onesies for the campaign’s Runway to Win initiative. It’s brilliant, really. Baby Blue Ivy (or your little darling) + insanely cute onesie = votes.
Of course, Beyonce and family aren’t the only celebrities designing merch for the President. Singer Ricky Martin, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch, and Yigal Azrouël have also designed merchandise for Runway to Win—all available on the RTW website.

Sometimes it’s not the easiest job to be a trendsetter. You’re an innovator and others are emulators. But when the competition gets too rough what’s a brand to do? Beat them by buying them of course. This was the exact case when beloved beauty sample subscriptions service BirchBox recently acquired Paris-based competitor “JolieBox”. According to Forbes with the new move, Birchbox will be available outside of the U.S. in France, Spain and the U.K.
JolieBoxes won’t completely disappear, however. They’ll simply just adopt their parent’s new name with new packaging to their current customers stating “JolieBox, a BirchBox Company”.
This recent move will step up the game for current beauty box subscription services who are still competing stateside and have yet to expand into over seas territory. But we’re sure it won’t be long before competitors get a whiff of the opportunity and follow along.
Subscribe to BirchBox, hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door for $10/month.

“She was hurt in her life,” vice president of famed perfumer Serge Lutens said of it’s latest scents muse, Billie Holiday. ”You can hear the voice of desperation.”
Inspired by the life of jazz legend Billie Holiday, Serge Lutens is set to unleash his latest scent Une Voixe Noire, a blend of tobacco, rum and the singer’s beloved white gardenia that she often wore in her hair.
“For Serge Lutens, the perfumes aren’t merchandise. It’s an art.” the VP of the brand went on to describe Lutens creative process. ”He likes to ‘write’ the perfume.” The photographer-turned-perfumer Lutens is notorious for favoring the romance of story over the details of mixing notes, and with the Une Voixe Noire, he seems to have hit the mark on something distinctly and beautifully Holiday.
You can expect to see Une Voixe Noire in stores sometime in October—and by “stores” we do imply that the sought-after scents are going to be available at a counter other than the brand’s namesake boutique. That’s right, luxe retail giant Barney’s New York will also be carrying Lutens fragrances as well as a new e-commerce site (set to debut in October as well) where fans of the brand can not only purchase the scent, but can also read the stories behind the fragrances.

There’s a star among us and with so few brown models walking the runway, it’s not hard to miss the sirens when rising model Lillian Lightbourn steps into the flashing lights. At only 21 years old, the Bermuda hottie is making her way into supermodel status one stiletto tooch at a time. She’s definitely been on our radar for a while but you might be better familiar with her image in your local Sephora rocking her natural tresses and bright eyes.
After killing shows for a few famed designers during this past week’s fashion shows, the star will be heading to London to expand into a global presence. Kudos to you Lillian! We’re rooting and watching for you!
