Doo-Ri Chung to Depart Eponymous Label
Given yesterdays news that YSL was giving it’s “Y” its walking papers… this week seems to be a big one for departures.
In a surprise move, WWD is reporting that Chung is departing the eponymous label that she started in 2001 without explanation. (*Which should get the tongues wagging.) The magazine offers up little in the way of details, but did print a quote from Doo.Ri‘s owner Tharanco Group, who “wishes Chung well in all her future endeavors.”
The departure is all the more surprising as the Doo.Ri partnership with Macy’s Impulse was such a coup this year and her big gig dressing Michelle Obama for a state dinner honoring South Korea. So maybe this is less a departure and more a stepping stone into a different kind of opportunity. Unnamed market sources seem to think just that, being quoted as speculating that “Market sources said that, while a sale of the firm is a possibility, the trend is for firms to shift to a licensing model, one that could work for the Doo.Ri brand.”
We certainly hope that’s the case, because we L-O-V-E Doo.Ri’s style. We really, really Doo.
