Feature stylist: Kate Young
Stylist of the moment, Kate Young, isn’t a fan of cliche. So dressing the high-profile and pregnant Natalie Portman proved to be a welcome challenge. “Being pregnant, your body is very specific, and it changes everything,” she says. “I’m trying to keep her looking clean, modern, and flattering — and trying not to fall into pregnancy clichés.”
But if anyone was up for the challenge it’s Ms. Young. With a pedigree garnered at Vogue under the tutelage of Anna Wintour herself, Ms. Young sticks to what – and who – inspires her, including her client list, which she keeps small. “I like working with people that I admire, so I don’t have a huge roster like other stylists,” she explains.
Today, that list includes Rachel McAdams, Selma Blair, Diane Kruger, Alicia Keys and the recent award-winning Ms. Portman – all of which she dresses classically with a twist (she once described her own style in New York Magazine as “Mommy Drinks”).
