FOUNDATION STATION: Putting An End To The Summer Slide

Nothing quite tells me that summer is here like the foundation sliding off your face by mid-day. (*Sigh) According to beauty editor Lois Joy Johnson, the co-author of The Makeup Wakeup: Revitalizing Your Look at Any Age it may not be your foundation after all – it may be your pre-makeup tools… or lack thereof.

Johnson states that there are three universal pre-makeup essentials that may be responsible for the summer slide.

First and foremost you must get on board with using a primer. Brands such as Laura Mercier and Smashbox have certainly led the way in touting the benefits of a good primer, and nearly every major brand has followed suit. A primer works in pretty much the same way as a paint primer does, essentially priming your skin to prevent foundation caking and creasing while ensuring that your makeup stays put.

The next essential is a good foundation brush. While many of us think our fingers or a sponge work just fine, Johnson explains otherwise, “A foundation brush really makes the difference between putting on foundation and having it look like skin, and putting on foundation and having it sit on top of your face like makeup.”

Number three is along the same lines, yet equally as important to fresh, stay put coverage, a concealer brush. “Whether you use a concealer brush to pad on opaque concealer over brown spots or over blemishes, it still gives you more accuracy and helps you to get all the angles around what you’re doing,” Johnson states.

Let’s end the summer slide.
