Gilt Groupe Gets A Little French Competition with Vente-Privee.

On your marks. Get set. SHOP! It looks like the #1 designer flash sale site Gilt Groupe has some U.S. competition!

With it’s roots in France, online flash-sale site Vente-Privee has just gone live in the U.S. – giving Gilt Groupe a run for it’s money… or more accurately… your money. Created in partnership with American Express, Gilt Groupe founder Kevin Ryan launched Vente Privee, differing from G.G’s business model in one very attractive way – more time to shop! Instead of G.G.’s 36-hour window to snap up designer merchandise discounted up to 70%, Vente-Privee gives shoppers 72-hours to procure the goods. (Though it’s unlikely the goods won’t be long gone well-before then.)

The site launches with a database of more than 30 million AmEx cardholders, and existing partnerships with 1,450 brands in the U.S. and Europe – and each sale will start at 10am each and every day. Today’s sale, for example included Paul & Joe dresses, swimwear and accessories and according to New York Magazine was nearly sold out by 11:30 EST.

Vente Privee USA will planning on hosting 1 or 2 sales a day and will amp up the offerings as the holiday shopping season heats up. So get those Christmas list ready and whip out those CC’s – On your marks! Get set! Shop!
