GISELE MISTAKES SUNSCREEN FOR “POISON”: How to Choose?
We all know how important… nay, vital it is to slather on sunscreen whenever those golden rays hit our beautiful complexions… but apparently Gisele Bunchen isn’t.
In the mother-of-all misspeaks, Ms. Bundchen has created a virtual uproar with a few biting little words directed directly as your friend and mine: sunscreen. And boy are her people back pedaling now.
At a press conference in São Paulo last week for her natural skin-care line Sejaa, Bundchen referred to sunscreen as “poison”.
The uber-model told the gathered media that she doesn’t wear sunscreen because, “I cannot put this poison on my skin. I do not use anything synthetic.” Instead claiming to only expose her prized body to the sun before 8am, when the sun’s rays are “too weak to harm her skin.”
Immediately cue the angry outcries from dermatologists and sunscreen fans around the world. And the back pedaling: Bundchen’s PR team are now claiming that the incident was actually a ‘false translation’ of what she actually said.
“Gisele would never say not to use sunscreen because she has had family members who have had skin cancer. She simply stated that her all-natural skin-care line does not have SPF because there is not an all natural SPF available,” said publicist Amber Clapp. “When using sunscreens, she selects ones that are free of parabens oxybenzone, PABA and retinyl palmitate.”
That likely leaves sunscreens with sensitive skin-friendly physical-barriers with active ingredients like zinc and titanium dioxide.
Sounds like semantics to me… but either way, the message is clear. While she may be a fashion icon particularly known for her beautiful glow – she is certainly no dermatologist. Lather up on the sunscreen – EVERY SINGLE DAY!
