Its great to see companies actually taking an interest in helping the planet and going green. Even just the minimal efforts catch my attention and make me want to support the cause. I love it even more when it is a well know company like Gucci. The iconic fashion brand has teamed up with well known eyewear brand Safilo for an August launch of four sustainable models of innovative acetate sunglasses. When compared to ordinary acetate eyeglass frames,  these are made from a higher percentage of natural ingredients. Not only are they made more conciously, but they are prety fab too.

Gucci will also be releasing a new Gucci Eyeweb collection (see below) as well. Two pairs of “bio-based sunglasses” made from castor-oil seeds. Who knew that glasses could be made from food? It looks like both the new acetate frames and the castor-oil seed frames produce significantly less CO2 in the manufacturing process than traditional glasses. Kudos to Gucci for making really cute glasses and ¬†for moving in a direction that will eventually help us all.
