Harem Pants…?

We have all seen the highly controversial harem pant, whether it was on the runway, the trendy streets of SOHO, or your hip hop dance class. Highly reminiscent of the early 90′s “Hammer Pants”, these pants have made a slow creep back into the fashion scene. Most who care have some sort of strong opinion, either highly in favor of the trend, or completely against it. One wonders if this trend will catch on further than the trendsetters and fashion elite…

Harem pants originated in India and are somewhat of a cross between a skirt and a pair of skinny jeans. The legs, from the knees down, are fitted and the crotch area is loose and baggy as if it were cut to be a skirt. The pants almost look like the near knee level worn skinny jeans worn by urban clothing connoisseurs, and could possibly be one of the factors of  the re emergence of the trend. These pants are fun and comfortable, and available in various materials  making them highly versatile, transitioning from fun street wear, to trendy party trousers, to amazing yoga pants! Here are a few images I found from the Fall/Winter 2011 D&G collection that will inspire some ideas on how to wear your harem pants. Tell us how it works out!
