I’ll admit it… I love to watch the unveiling of the year’s best dressed lists. From Vanity Fair to the British Fashion Council to the man who started it all, Mr. Blackwell… the lists tend to give us a visual not only of the cultural zeitgeist, but also of who to make whatever trends and designers that happen to be hot at the moment, your own. And the illustrious 2011 Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed list winners certainly know how to do that.

Kate Middleton

A newcomer to the international scene, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton brings her new-found Princess pedigree to the #1 spot (and also appeared on Vanity Fair’s list, but was notably absent from The British Fashion Council’s list.)

Florence Welch

One of my absolute favorites, both in the music and fashion world, is the sure-to-be-legendary Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine. The judges seemed to agree as she landed the #2 spot, saying ‘She’s fairytale and magical but powerful – like her voice’.

Andrea Riseborough

The #3 spot went to British actress Andrea Riseborough and while you may not have heard of her… yet… you can certainly put her on your film and fashion radar. According to the judges, ‘There’s something quite flawless, porcelain and from another time about Andrea’.

Kate Moss

Another favorite and another Kate and certainly no stranger to best dressed lists, the judges at Harper’s Bazaar describe the #4 best dressed winner, Kate Moss as having ‘a ‘Tesco’ attitude about fashion – she makes it accessible to everyone’. I’ve taken countless inspiration from Moss’s photographs – both paparazzi and professional – and credit her for accessorizing and expanding my own repertoire.

Tilda Swinton

One of the best actresses to grace the screen – next to that other Cate (Blanchett) – the #5 spot on Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed List goes to Tilda Swinton. And the judges aren’t shy about why, saying: ‘Tilda has balls – she’s the ultimate in transformation’. And isn’t that what fashion is all about?

Others on the list included: Kiera Knightly, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Alexa Chung, Livia Firth, Natalie Massanet, Natalia Vodianova, Samantha Cameron, Emma Watson, Yasmin LeBon and Thandie Newton. Congrats ladies.

And thank you UK Harper’s Bazaar. Now here is a list we can all look up to!
