Jacob’s Loves Jazz
When you’re hot. You’re hot. And right now, Marc Jacobs is hot. Really hot.
From his rumored take-over of Galliano’s coveted spot at Dior, to his triumphant diffusion line Marc by Marc, to his most recent New York Fashion Week triumph, to his namesake 2012 Spring line being met with massive approval and aplomb – it seems Mr. Jacobs is on a roll.
The collection, which closed this years 2012 New York Fashion Week, takes us blissfully back to the jazz-age (I’m biased, it’s my favorite era!) and included flapper dresses with drop waists and plenty of separates with fringe embellished skirts, cellophane and sequins. The presentation was an equally as impressive affair – highly choreographed and opening with the parting of a heavy gold curtain to reveal a full cast of models draped Fosse-style over wooden chairs across the length of the stage.
Drawing on inspirations as diverse as Amy Winehouse and Southern deserted dance cabarets, the collection is being universally heralded as thrilling, modern and just plain cool. Which does lead one to wonder what wonders Mr. Jacobs would indeed bring to Dior – one can only imagine!
