Jessica Simpson Fashion Empire Exceeds All Expectation
Celebs and fashion. Whether sporting a couture designers latest and greatest on an awards runway or launching their own line – celebrities have their well-manicured hands all over the fashion world and for good reason: there is money to be made.
And while success at this glamorous game can be a hit or miss (think Kate Moss’s TopShop Collaboration vs. Paris Hilton’s fashion line), one unlikely celeb is quickly helming the top of this food chain.
Jessica Simpson, whose fashion empire encompasses shoes, accessories, outerwear, bathing suits, fragrance, and watches – brought in a staggering $750 million this year – (yes, that is on the happy side towards $1 billion dollars.) According to an article in NY Magazine, “this makes her that rare diva that is, in at least one category, outperforming even Madonna.” – Whoa. Way to go Ms. Simpson.
“People look at her as a style icon,” explains Vince Camuto, the main licensee for Simpson-branded merchandise. And, while she has definitely endured her share of missteps, criticism and even what this editor would call abuse (from paparazzi and the press over her weight fluxuations, music and acting choices), she is… in a word: relate-able.
Jack Gross from the Jones Group, which licenses her Jeanswear, says, “Fifteen-, 16-year-olds and 40-year-olds like her. Sometimes she has missteps, and they identify with her.” The numbers don’t lie. And in the fashion game – hitting multiple age-ranges is often times the key to the kingdom.
Congratulations Jessica Simpson, you have unexpectedly graduated to fashion mogul.
