Little Boys That Paint Their Nails…

Recently, the well known clothing brand J.Crew emailed an advertisement out to their customers of an at home glimpse of their visionary and creative director Jenna Lyons with her young son. In the advertisement Jenna is playing with her son and painting his nails neon pink. The caption:

“Lucky for me I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.”

As expected, this sparked fires in the conservative crowd as she and J.Crew were nearly harpooned by Dr. Keith Ablow on none other than every liberals favorite network FOX. He went on to express his deep concerns:

“If little boys wear toenail polish how will we tell them apart from little girls? Says Albow,

“This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity—homogenizing males and females when the outcome of such ‘psychological sterilization’ is not known. ”

His rantings continue… “These folks [J. Crew] are hostile to the gender distinctions that actually are part of the magnificent synergy that creates and sustains the human race.”

I find it intersting that something as simple as a little boy that likes to paint his toenails with his mother can do all of this, and even if it did, how is this really damaging the state of the nation? There are much more important issues to tackle, and the fact that a network as influential as FOX would choose to give a voice to something like this. The world of fashion is constantly pumping out things that I am sure make much bigger impacts on society, why pick the little boy? I would love to hear your thoughts…

Does allowing your little boy to paint his nails erase the line between men and women, and if so, is this a negative thing?
