Met Ball Announces An Unruly 2013 Theme
Next to the illustrious Fashion Week frenzies, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s Met Ball is arguably the most anticipated night out of the year, with party-goers and watchers alike anxiously awaiting the announcement of the next fete’s theme. Wait no more. The MET has announced that 2013′s party will be titled “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”
That’s not the only big news. In a surprising turn, 2013′s event is being underwritten by high-end trunk show site Moda Operandi. And after raising $36 million dollars in investments, the rapidly growing e-commerce co. is in a good position to turn some of that cash into clout by pairing with the ball.
The companies cofounder and chief executive officer Áslaug Magnúsdóttir recently explained the perfection of the pairing by saying that both MO and MET aim “to connect women worldwide to designers and provide them access to the most special pieces ever produced.” Magnúsdóttir went on to list those “most special pieces,” by the illustrious likes of Haider Ackermann, Miguel Adrover, Azzedine Alaïa, Dolce & Gabbana, Andrew Groves, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Rodarte, and Alexander Wang. And with that, the point was made.
So prepare yourself for a 2013 MET Ball red carpet rife with ripped, shredded, spiked and otherwise unruly fashions.
