If you haven’t already met, let me introduce you to Neon Hart. It’s not the name of the newest West village hole-in-the-wall where you can grab a $4 mixed drink in a red plastic cup nor is it a midnight rave in Brooklyn. It’s actually the newest design venture for Jessica Hart. The Aussie model traded in her signature strut for cutting shears and the result is a limited-edition partnership with retailer General Pants. The reviews are mixed.
Upon hearing about yet another model-turned-entrepreneur, I couldn’t help but turn a critical eye on the collection too. There were no heavy hitters on the field though each piece was wearable in that comfy-cool MOD (Model Off Duty) sorta way. Ripped screen tees, animal prints, and foolproof denim bits filled out the SS 2011 roster–not-a-one screamed “must-have.” We’re all for easy-breezy separates but the key is in the reinterpretation, which sadly was missing. We wanted something interesting, deep, different than we expected. Instead, it felt a little like watching a movie in which the actress plays herself.
Official rating: C- The line won’t catapult the gap-toothed beauty into fashion stardom, but it’ll keep her out of the Hall of Shame…for now. We expect a better showing next season, Jess. Welcome to the Big League.
Check out Neon Hart at General Pants and tell Posh Beauty what you think.
