Nicole Miller’s Scientific Turn
She of urban appeal and clean lines, Nicole Miller, has crossed over to “the dark side” – as Vadar might say – with another sci-fi inspired collection that makes geek look positively chic. With her last two seasonal lines taking inspiration from both the sci-fi cult film Gattaca and this latest Resort 2012 collection taking its cues from refracted glass – science, rainbows and asymmetrical draping made itself intrinsically clear.
While I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the “dancing” model phenom – (just makes it hard to see how the clothes hang) – the color used in the collection in general are stunning – especially the variety of dresses and tunics tricked out in a silky rainbow fabric and the bevy of electric night-sky blues (both patterned and not).
Miller also included the more casual homage to ladies in over-sized almost menswear silhouettes, including a gorgeous jumpsuit and a number of wide-legged, oversized pants in a variety of khaki-colored textures.
Nicole Miller’s 2012 Resort Collection manages to go sci-fi modern, while maintaining Miller’s coveted urban appeal – this is a line that her oldest fans (and newest converts) can applaud.
