New York Fashion Week Updates: Isaac Mizrahi Out & Avril Lavigne In
New York Fashion Week is only a couple of weeks away and there are some interesting surprises coming your way if you plan on following. First, fashion veteran Isaac Mizrahi who has been showing ever since his first collection in 1987, has decided not to show his collection this year. He has had his fair share of highs and lows, one of the major highs being when he designed his highly successful line for Target in 2002, which catapulted his brand to the top of the commercial fashion industry. This year his publicist claims that they will only be releasing images of the collection “in lieu of a show.” With markets down and everyone moving to having a big online presence, I can’t say that this is much of a surprise, although we will miss the fun and extravagant show that Mizrahi is known for putting on.
On the other hand, pop star Avril Lavigne, will be coming back to the tents to show her Abbey Dawn collection this year. The last time she showed her collection during NYFW was in 2009, and with the recent success in Japan and the uprising of hirajiku/exagerrated and cartoon-like fashion in the states, thanks to the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, she may be returning at a very appropriate time. Her Abbey Dawn collection presents the perfect ready to wear option for young girls who want to channel the young rocker girl look. The collection is sold exclusively at Kohl’s, but this time will get the full runway treatment on September 12th Metropolitan Pavilion.
