- What are your tips on keeping makeup fresh throughout the day? What Brands last longer? Without the need to keep running to the restroom to touchup.
The best way to keep your makeup fresh throughout the day is to know your skin and what products you’re using. Match like with like. If you’re using an oil-based foundation, use an oil based moisturizer. Water based foundation matches with a water based primer or moisturizer. If you fail to do that, you will have muddled makeup that doesn’t last. Always set your makeup with a powder and/or spray. I love Skindanavia’s Makeup Setting Sprays. They also make Urban Decay’s sprays like “All Nighter” or “De-Slick”
- Which product(s) do you swear by?
If you’re talking about personal products I prefer, for the last few months you could not catch me without my OCC Moisture Tint, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer, mascara and MAC Ruby Woo lipstick. For Clients, it all depends on their skin type and any issues they are dealing with at the moment, however staple brans in my kit include items from Make Up For Ever, Face Atelier, Ben Nye, NARS, MAC and Graftobian.
- What Beauty trend are you loving right now?
I’m loving Cat Eyes and Bold Lips. I feel with doing any of those you can instantly spruce up your look.
- What are a few key tips you can give to those want to follow in your career footsteps?
Being a makeup artist isn’t easy. These days, you have tons of people trying to get into the industry. My advice is to educate yourself, study the greats like Sam Fine, Pat McGrath, Kevyn Aucoin etc., practice often, and always try to assist a senior artist.
- What is one “makeup sin” that you see women make quite often?
A makeup “sin” I’m seeing a lot of lately is the halo around the eyebrows. I have no clue where that trend began, but, it needs to stop. It just does not look good. When applying makeup, everything should blend nicely and seamlessly.
- What are the hottest trends in makeup/hair currently?
The hottest makeup trend right now is the berry or Bordeaux lip.
- What was your first big job?
My first big job was doing makeup for a bride and her bridal party of 9, all by myself.
- What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about your job as a hair stylist?
My favorite part of being a makeup artist is being able to make people feel and look better with a little brush. It’s almost magical!
- Where do you get your beauty inspirations?
My beauty inspirations can come from a clothing item or something I’ve seen in a magazine. Sometimes I have a vision pop into my head out of the blue that I just have to try.
- What kind of beauty inspires you?
There’s inspiration everywhere. Nature, magazines etc. Most of all, natural beauty inspires me most.
