Practically perfect spring trends to try

From hairstyles to skincare and manicures to makeup, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have noticed that spring 2014 is blooming with beauty trends. Seen on runways and red carpets and emulated in countless street style photos, the most popular of-the-moment looks juxtapose each other and aren’t all that difficult to pull-off. So let’s take a peek at some of the best beauty trends for the season—it seems this year, there’s at least one for everyone.

Possibly the prettiest look is au natural, as in the “no-makeup” look. Now we all know that “no-makeup” doesn’t necessarily mean no makeup. Instead it means that enhancing a lady’s existing beauty—clear skin, minimal eye makeup, and a hint of color on the cheeks and lip. Seen on the runways of Michael Kors and Milly, the “no-makeup” look is equal parts healthy and pretty, and a universal winner on any skin tone.

Of course, you’ll also have noticed (and how could you not) the resurgence of the opposite end of the spectrum—a bold pop of colored eyeliner. Cool tones like blue, green, and purple are just enough to play striking and subtle at the same time. This look was a big winner at Marc Jacobs S/S 14 runway and was also seen at Giles F/W 14 and on Chanel’s Cruise collection catwalk.

Au natural hair is also playing a big part in the less-is-more arena, looking unfussy, undone, and positively pretty at the same time. Letting your curls and waves do their thing is big for spring, adding just the right amount of polish by minimizing frizz with a mist of hair oil or leave in conditioner.

Au natural hair looks equally easy in a braid. Fishtail, french, cornrows, messy and neat, braids are big this season.

An orange lip is a big ”Do” for spring 2014, and is universally flattering. Revlon global artistic director Gucci Westman, who sent girls down the runway at Rag & Bone with tangerine lips, had this to say about this season’s most popular hue, “It works on all skin tones.” Glossy and creamy orange lipsticks do wonders to liven up a look, while matte tone down the look, but are equally as pretty.

And finally, be sure to take advantage of all the pretty and metallic hot nail hues for spring. Pastel polishes like pink, blue, green, and even yellow are popping up everywhere, and nothing sets off pretty tanned toes than a metallic gold, silver or bronze pedicure.
