Ready for 3D Printed Bioengineered Leather?
As much as we’re all down for the cause and respect the PETA-endorsed celebs who refuse to rock fur or leather, nothing says style and sophistication like a great pair of leather boots or a high-priced divinely made hand bag. Yes, we’re guilty of loving the material, but what if we could have our guilty pleasure without harming an animal in the process?
Modern Meadow, a Missouri-based startup is approaching leather production from a tissue-bioengineering point of view. Simply, the production of leather could soon mean not having to kill animals. This new type of production operation could be active in as little as five years.
According to Ecouterre Modern Meadow’s proposed mode of leather production require fewer toxic chemicals during tanning. Additionally, less environmental resources will be used if bioengineering occurs versus raising live stock for the purpose of leather production.
What do you think Posh Beauties? Would you get a piece of animal-free leather?
