Summer 2014′s Must-Have Sunglasses

House of Holland

There are plenty of must-have accessories for the summer season — SPF, sandals and poolside sarongs, to name a few — but none are quite so vital to the chic set than a great pair of sunglasses. Your shades do more than protect your pretty peepers, they make a statement about your personal style and preferences, and spring/summer 2014′s top sunglasses are a far cry from last year’s boring aviators. Think patterns like leopard print, florals and geometrics, shapes that steer sharply into a cats-eye or into wide-eyed circles, and colors from clear to a rainbow variety of hues. A bold pair of sunnies is a great way to manage an effortlessly chic look by simply slipping them on. Here are some of our favorite sunglass trends of the season — which one would you wear?

1. Cat-eye sunglasses pull off smart and sophisticated without looking at all stuffy. From sleek and modern, to decidedly retro, a great pair of cat-eye shaped frames are a great go-to for dressing up any outfit.

2. If cat-eye isn’t your thing, you’re in luck, because the other shape-du-jour for sunglasses this spring is round. Round sunnies run the gamut from whimsical complete circles to bold-browed under circles and come in a wide variety of sizes to fit most face shapes. Pair the shape with a leopard print or a sheer pink tint for statement making bonus points.

3. Chunky colored frames in everything from neon yellow to matte red are making the rounds on street style blogs everywhere (and high fashion editorials — natch.) Making a bold statement has never been so easy, peasy.

4. They’re called classics for a reason. Aviators do look great on just about everyone, so instead of throwing yours to the wind, think about choosing a pair in rose gold with barely tinted lenses, or a blue-hued frame to match your eyes.
