Along with most viral sensations, the #iwokeuplikethis hashtag is blissfully running its course — but let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. The simple beauty of au natural is continuing to rule the fashion week runways, with scores of stylists taking the “no makeup” trend further north to the hair. Scores of models sporting “effortless” hair have been seen sashaying down the catwalks at Rebecca Minkoff, Coach and Jason Wu — slightly disheveled, lightly (and not so lightly) textured and decidedly undone, the considerable “effort” (and product) put into making “effortless” happen is apparent, but worth it for the sex appeal alone.
We do heart a good collaboration, so today’s big reveal — Banana Republic meets designer Roland Mouret — had us at hello. The long-awaited capsule collection is a 30-piece, body-con dream of dresses, skirts, tops, blazers and pants perfect for every occasion and will be priced between $50 and $165. A favorite of Kate Middleton, Mouret has met with plenty of attention lately, and with this capsule, it’s clear to see why.
“The common goal for this collection is to offer incredible fit through an assortment of hourglass silhouettes using Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric, extending my love of structure into accessible prices,” Mouret said of the collaboration. “These pieces are multifunctional for the modern woman to wear and accessorize in her own way, making her always ready for life’s journey.” (Did we mention we L-O-V-E him?)
In preparation for tomorrow’s launch, we’ve picked out some of our favorites. Which one’s are on your list?

A short while back we told you about Banana Republic’s plan to partner up with Focus Features on a clothing line inspired by their historical epic flick, Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Well, guess what? It’s here!
Just in time for the holiday’s — natch — the long awaited capsule is now available to shop via Banana Republic’s website and on store shelves. The collection tapped the film’s costume designer, Jacqueline Durran to curate and style — and while to our eye the clothing seems more Mad Men and less 19th century, there are elements that convey that historical Russian feel.
Think faux fur coats and hats, wool and lots of dark hued rich fabrics and you’ll get the idea. And the fact that you can snap up these pieces now means that you’ll have something warm to wear when the film hits theaters on November 9th — those theaters get cold!read more
Are you tired of “Mad Men” yet? Neither are we.
And it seems neither is Banana Republic, who have announced their intention to collaborate with AMC on yet another “Mad Men” clothing collection for spring 2013. This third 50-piece “Mad Men” capsule will hit stores on March 1 and is set to range in price from $44.50 to $375 — all inspired by the evolution of styles favored by Don Draper’s second wife Megan.
“Our inspiration was Megan, Don’s wife,” said MM’s costume designer and BR’s collaborator Janie Bryant. “Megan represents the young and modern. She really represents a changing of the times.”
Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen seconded that notion by saying, “Obviously, Megan’s influence in the series, and her character is fabulous. She takes risks and is a little bit more in the know in terms of fashion.” Kneen then added that he’ll never tire of collaborating with Mad Men and Bryant, “Janie looks at what people were wearing at the time. It’s certainly not costume. It’s real clothes for today.” Does that mean that there is a fourth and fifth Mad Men collection in the works? We shall see.read more
