The temperature is rising and your hemlines should be following suit. No, we don’t mean skirts, we mean this summer’s favorite staple: shorts.
Not exactly a new addition to your wardrobe, shorts have long been questionable fare when it came to office and evening wear and even for ladies past 30. Thank goodness that nonsense is over, because shorts are ruling the chic set, whether it’s cut off jean shorts and a rock-n-roll tee, tailored long short/blazer combos, or sexy silk shorts and a sheer printed blouse — shorts are the choice du jour of celebs, street style stars, and your most stylish BFF.
Here’s some of-the-moment inspiration to help you style your shorts throughout the season.
Fall/Winter’s annual changing of the color guards is a beautiful thing — particularly as it applies to your cosmetics case. Red wine-inspired hues are popping up everywhere with burgundy hues leading the charge.
From the runways of Fendi and Derek Lam’s F/W 13, to celebs like Kristen Stewart, Coco Rocha, and Lorde, it seems everyone is peppering their cold-weather makeup palette with deep, dark reds.
Makeup artist Lucia Pieroni recently told InStyle that “burgundy has become a mainstay for fall,” with the most obvious and universally appealing approach being to paint your pout — but you needn’t stop there. Burgundy is also appearing on dark, glossy manicures, high sculpted cheekbones, and even on it’s own take on the smokey eye.
It appears that, burgundy, this winter season, is boss.read more
Painting your pout red is surely the most classic approach to pulling attention to your pucker, but if you prefer playing with a more of-the-moment hue, pull out a tube of fuchsia lipstick, gloss, or stain and go at it. From runways like Dior, Prabal Gurung, and Oscar de la Renta, and slicked across the lips of celebrities like Jennifer Hudson, Coco Rocha and Olivia Wilde, fuchsia is the latest incarnation of a fully painted lip, and a very modern veer away from a classic red.
If you’re looking for a more detailed look than simply slicking on the pink/purple hue, try dabbing the lips with concealer to erase your natural color, as well as highlighting your cupids bow for extra ethereal oomph. Then line the lips with a neutral or matching shade, and carefully paint on your favorite fuchsia. Blotting will help achieve that of-the-moment ink stamped look that everyone is so wild about — and voila! You’re ready to go.read more
Snakeskin, giraffe, and tiger stripes — animal prints have been heating up haute collections for years now, but judging from the resurgence of leopard print on fall runways and red carpets, it seems there is new king of the jungle.
Think fresh and fun, yet sophisticated, autumn 2013 leopard prints are elegant and decidedly un-garish, appearing in an array of colorful re-imaginings, chunky sweaters, and over-sized silhouettes, as well as flattering small printed pencil skirts, underplayed spotted silk blouses, and playful handbags and heels.
Oh snap! In the world of reality TV… it’s about to be on! We mean ON!
Come February, the claws will be out on the catwalk as a new modeling-competition premieres, starring the notoriously nasty super-model Naomi Campbell. Aptly called The Face, the show will pit Campbell and fellow super-models Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova who will each assemble a team of model-wanna-be’s to compete against each other on the catwalk (and in pix, we assume.)
Today, Rocha put her social-media-savvy to good use, posting the first The Face trailer on her Vimeo page – with the inclusion of former America’s Top Model judge, the dismissed and dreamy Nigel Barker. Take a peek at the trailer here.
