Of all the fabrics, denim has a shelf life that lasts. Season after season, year after year. But that doesn’t mean your jean cut and color aren’t on the same trend timeline as everything else. Spring may see the end of your dark, skinny jeans to make way for a hippier selection of hemlines, flares and casually faded hues and 80′s inspired high-waistlines. As always, we’re offering off evidence, so if our blog on Alexa Chung’s latest collaboration with AG Jeans isn’t enough, here are some current runways looks, inspired by the past and reinvented for 2015.
We can’t think of a more versatile or more beloved closet staple than denim, which is why today’s reveal of H&M’s Conscious Denim Collection has us pining for the official release date — Oct. 2. Chock full of uber-chic fall essentials like overalls, boyfriend jeans and a quilted jean jacket, as well as more urban takes on color and style with indigo t-shirts, sweatshirt, sweaters, and a slim-fitting denim pencil skirt.
What’s more, the fast-fashion giant’s commitment to sustainability is apparent, as the collection is a partnering between H&M and Spanish-based denim consultants Jeanologia, who help brands assess the environmental impact of the washes and dyes used, including the energy and water use as well. All this research ensures that H&M stays true to it’s eco-conscious mission.

Below, we’ve collected a smattering of denim-spirational snaps devoted to the beloved textile showing the new staple jean pieces you’ll be wearing this spring.

After years of monochromatic hues and big, bold color blocking, it’s clear that complicated and chic prints are running the show for spring 2013. Earlier in the week we offered up Madewell’s swimsuit collaboration with that patroness of prints Mara Hoffman — but it seems that patterns are popping up on nearly everything. So if you thought your staple diet of denim was safe from this trend, we’re here to tell you you’re wrong.
