Slouchy jeans. Belt-slung shorts. Oversize button up shirts. It’s officially in fashion to raid your boyfriend’s closet. Which means more for you (and less for him… but never mind that.) Today’s tip is about the merits of swiping your boyfriends favorite wears for yourself — and looking absolutely fabulous doing it.
Your BF’s jeans, hanging precariously off the hip, are the perfect compliment to a tucked crisp T-shirt. Simply roll the cuff and pair with a sexy heeled sandal and you’ve got a great going out look that’s not to casual to be chic. Shorts are the same — the slouch is sexy and urban, with a cool display of leg perfect for showing off the latest in your shoe collection.
It’s hard not to see the promise of your BF’s button-ups, particularly when tied at the waist. And let’s not forget the magic of your boyfriend’s sweater, which makes a great pairing with skinny jeans or over a floral dress.
Who needs to go on a shopping spree when your boyfriend closet is so obviously ripe for the picking!read more
Baring your midriff is certainly daring and utterly on-trend, but how does a gal show a little skin without risking over-exposure? A single mid-section cutout of course! Seen on the style-set likes of Diane Kruger, Kate Hudson and Allison Williams, a midriff cutout manages to exude sex appeal and elegance without trying to hard. Not to mention the way the look spices up the red carpet and is flashy enough to underplay hair and makeup — it’s a perfect cocktail party staple. Designers like Michael Kors, Altuzarra and Marios Schwab have caught on and are offering up some seriously stylish takes on the look, so we thought we’d present our evidence in the form of their latest red-carpet converts. Enjoy!
Thank goodness, thigh-high boots are back. (Honestly, we had no idea they left.)
Everywhere I look, blogs and fashion mags are touting the merits of “the latest trend” — a pair of boots that climb up over-the-knee to the thigh. Once considered too tough for everyday wear, the thigh-high is looking every inch the wardrobe staple it should be on the likes of It-girls Olivia Palermo, Lily Aldridge, and our own fashion-favorite Diane Kruger. So it looks like the look is here to stay, which is fantastic news for my own tall, cool, suede pair.
Here are some of our favorite recent thigh-high snaps… see if you don’t agree!
It’s time to (finally) stop the madness! When it comes to mixing your prints, the loud, too-cool-to-care summer clashing of florals, stripes, and hearts is sooo last season. With the cooler weather coming, it’s time to stop indulging that blatant cry for attention, and display a bit more restraint. When it comes to fall mixing-n-matching, those garish warm-weather pairings come off as too tropical and indie anyways.
With a turn towards schoolgirl skirt-meets-blouse style, Diane Kruger shows us how print-pairing should be done — delicately. By choosing small, underplayed prints, the actress mixes and matches in a way that’s less overwhelming for autumn. Saving those bold prints el solo or pair with a solid and you can still keep them in heavy-rotation through fall and winter too. Check out a few of our favorite recent celebrity print ensembles!
In the current fashion climate of hi-lo collaborations and indie-chic pairings, it’s not hard to see why the tuxedo trouser is clawing its way to the forefront of what’s hot for spring 2013. Paired with a simple tee or tank, this dressy bottom is as unexpected as it is perfect for a day in the office or a night on the town — and the stripe down the side of the leg equals a long-lanky look that is universally flattering. But don’t take our word for it. Tibi, Halston Heritage, Elizabeth & James, even Forever 21, are all offering up their take on this over-is-under dressed bottom — with Miranda Kerr, Diane Kruger, and Emma Stone taking the bate. Take a look at some of our favorite celebrity tuxedo trouser looks and see if you don’t agree — the tuxedo trouser is a must-have for spring.
If next month’s mags are any indication, editors are going crazy for celebrity cover models. Could it be that the past few months September Issue/ Fashion Week madness has led to model overload? Nevermind, magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, Vogue are all eschewing the haute couture super-models (at least for now) in favor of a host of red-carpet beauties including Salma Hayek, Sarah Jessica Parker, Taylor Swift, Nicole Kidman, Natasha Poly, Jennifer Lawrence and Diane Kruger. But the proof is in the pudding — so here’s the pudding. Soon to be hitting newsstands, here are some of our favorite November 2012 editions celebrity-adorned covers:
