Known for her penchant for collecting baubles (and husbands – 8 marriages/7 men), Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry is nearly as famous as the actress herself — which is why it makes perfect sense that the powers-that-be would bedeck Jessica Chastain in one of Taylor’s most notable gems for the 50th anniversary viewing of Taylor’s iconic film, Cleopatra.
Chastain stunned the Cannes crowd wearing Taylor’s famed Bulgari necklace — a gift to the iconic actress from co-star and husband (#’s 5 & 6) Richard Burton, who presented the stunning 65-carat sapphire-and-diamond sautoir to Taylor for her 40th birthday in 1972.
On loan from Bulgari (who bought back eight-pieces from Taylor’s 2011 Christie’s auction) the dazzling necklace is rarely loaned out, making it’s appearance in Cannes one of note.
“I feel so lucky to be wearing them. They looked so fabulous on her and she was a movie star from her head to her toes,” said Chastain. “That kind of glamorous star doesn’t exist anymore but their diamonds do.” Which is good enough reason to give you a Posh Wednesday close-up of the dazzler here!read more
The Oscar red carpet is arguably THE BIGGEST celebrity fashion gawping event of the year and the attendees of the 2013 Academy Awards certainly put their best foot forward (except maybe Sally Field whose foot actually featured a pair of sneakers.) Sequins and a nude, white and black palette reigned surpreme with elegant appearances by Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Lining’s Playbook) and Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway (Les Mis), not to mention a critical standout in the Best Dressed category Charlize Theron — but there were a few standouts donning fresh, bold hues like Jennifer Aniston and Kerry Washington. A host of actresses tricked themselves out in metallic shades like Nicole Kidman, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Naomi Watts too. Here’s a look at some of our favorites from last nights ceremony, and a rousing congratulations to all the winners!read more
While you’re busy sneaking in that last minute X-mas shopping, the fashion world is once again a step ahead of the game. You’re prepping for Santa and they’re already well into the New Year’s celebrations with the magazine racks revealing a seriously snazzy array of January 2013 covers.
Celebrities dominate the mags, with Jessica Chastain continuing her reign as celebrity-du-jour, gracing a lion’s share of the glossies by scoring covers of GQ, Elle, Deutch Vogue, and, of course, the 4 art-inspired W covers that we fawned over previously. Pop stars Gwen Stephanie (Vogue and Marie Claire) and Kylie Minogue (Elle) are also on-hand, as are actresses Jessica Biel (Elle), Gwyneth Paltrow (InStyle), Anne Hathaway (Glamour), Sienna Miller (Harper’s Bazaar and Harper’s Bazaar UK), and Kate Bosworth (Harper’s Bazaar Australia.) And let’s not forget the supermodels — there’s Kate Upton (Vogue UK), Joan Smalls (Vogue Japan and Vogue Brash) and Carolyn Murphy (Vogue Australia.) So yes, the 2013 covers are, in a word: dazzling. Take a look for yourself!
It seems fitting that with the ending of last week’s Art Basel exhibit in Miami, that the art-meets-fashion set would need something else to gawp over. Enter W magazine, who neatly fills the void with its annual “art meets fashion” issue, featuring four celeb portrait covers, each one done by four leading artists.
Each cover is graced with the classic beauty of actress-of-the-moment Jessica Chastain, realized by George Condo, Rineke Dijkstra, Chantal Joffe, and Mickalene Thomas. From painting, to collage, to costume, Chastain seems to retains her stunning visage regardless of medium. Take a look at these four distinct and inventive covers for yourself and let’s give a round of applause to the editors of W for their artistic twist on a fashion cover.read more
The internet is all abuzz this morning with the arrival of Vanity Fair’s annual 2012 International Best-Dress List — and this time it’s chock full of celebrities, fashion heavies, journalists and entrepreneurs.
Clocking in at number one, of course, is the fair damsel, Duchess Kate Middleton who can’t sneeze without someone commenting on what label her handkerchief totes. VF lists Middleton’s profession as ”Wife of the Duke of Cambridge, future King of England,” but we like to think of her as the gal who single-handedly brought hat wearing back to the masses.
And while Kate’s style is all about accessibility, the list, as its want to do, get’s increasingly more glamorous from there, making it more apropos to entertainment than emulation.
The number 2 slot goes to actress Jessica Chastain who also, coincidentally graces the cover of Vanity Fair’s September Style issue — is someone playing favorites? Yes. And deservedly so.
The list continued on it’s fashionable way with a slew of surprises (photographer Bill Cunningham and corespondent Morley Safer,) a smattering of fashion folks (Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia and brand consultant Michelle Harper,) celebrities (actress Diane Kruger, musician Alicia Keys, rapper/ songwriter/ producer Jay Z, and actor Eddie Redmayne — Yes, please.)
Head on over to Vanity Fair’s website to flip through the list in it’s entirety.read more
