SAG Awards stunning red carpet

Lupita Nyong'o

Julianne Moore, Uzo Aduba, Viola Davis, Patricia Arquette — we’re clear on the handful of last night’s SAG Award winners. What we’re unclear on is who “won” the red-carpet. Style stars in dazzling get-ups were in abundance last night, from Emma Stone’s stunning Dior tux redux to Lupita Nyong’o's flowing stripes meets floral Elie Saab. Since you’re likely as hard-pressed to pick favorites as we are, we thought we’d do our own photo red carpet 2.0 right here and then let you choose. So let us know… who do you think nailed the “style-star” look at last nights award season ceremony?

Rosamund Pike

Reece Witherspoon

Rashida Jones

Emma Stone

Must-have: Crossover Style

Proenza Schouler

In keeping our eyes peeled for of-the-moment styles that are popping, we couldn’t help but notice a certain embellishment adorning everything from skirts to shirts, jumpers to trousers. The cross-over cut is stacking up to be summer’s most universally flattering style regardless of height, body shape, even personal style. Seen on the neckline of a blouse, a crossover is ideal for drawing the eye upward, a crossover twist at the waist is perfect for concealing problem areas, and the crossover of a wrap skirt can add more movement than a traditional a-line. It’s also a great look on a jacket to help camouflage an excessively ample bust, and don’t get us started on the flattering, leg-lengthening appeal of the look on a sandal. Need we say it? Today’s must-have is more style then product or trend, and here are a few of our favorite cross-over looks for you to try on for size.

Cannes 2014: Celebrities go seaside in high style

Cannes Film Festival’s red-carpet is well-known for offering up the best star-gazing this side of awards season, and this year is no different. From A-list to D-list, reality stars to up-n-comers, celebrities are tricking themselves out in their finest frocks to celebrate film, fame and the entertainment industry as a whole. Naturally, we thought a bit of eye-candy was in order, so here we go, and Happy Friday!

Nicole Kidman rarely disappoints on the red carpet and despite less-than-favorable reviews of her long-awaited biopic Grace of Monaco, she’s turned in some seriously style savvy photo ops.

The Women in Film with Calvin Klein even was chock full of fascinating and tres fashionable favorites like Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Watts and Rooney Mara.

Blake Lively made all the style blogs at the Cannes red-carpet premiere of Mr. Turner looking every-inch the movie star she is.

Cate Blanchett’s Chopard Event appearance showed the actress looking her ethereal best in a grey metallic Valentino gown.

And it just wouldn’t be right to not circle back to the Grace of Monaco red carpet to celebrate the stunner, Zoe Saldana whose Victoria Beckham white chain dress was a perfect pick for the sun and sand of the seaside city.

Tuesday To-Do: Blue Eyeshadow

Spring ’14′s best eye makeup look has taken a turn towards the sky and sea with a resurgence of blue hued shadow, liner and even mascara. NOTE: This is not your mother’s baby blue eyeshadow. Instead, it’s a turn towards a darker blue palette, like navy, indigo, cobalt and even an enviable sheer indigo—and stars like Beyonce, Emmy Rossum and Emma Stone are all trying this look on for size.

For a modern take on this classic color, try a highly pigmented cobalt shadow or liner boldly making a statement on the trend. Or stick with a reverse ombre, starting with navy liner and moving up over the entire eyelid blending to a sheer finish just before the eyebrow. A softer look will include choosing a sheer gray-toned blue which will highlight most any eye color, looking of-the-moment without going over the top. Or just throw caution to the wind and create a mermaid-ish holographic smokey eye with shimmering aqua, green or violet-toned blue shadows.

The look also played double duty as liner and highly pigmented eyelid stain at both Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 14 catwalk, and also seen at the Badgley Mischka S/S 14 presentation and Miu Miu S/S 14—all in preparation for hitting your own cosmetics case this season. So what are you waiting for?

Lupita Nyong’o is the new face of Lancôme

It was bound to happen, but we’re so glad the wait is over! Our over-the-moon girl crush, Lupita Nyong’o has finally settled on a beauty contract and the winner is Lancôme. The Oscar-winning beauty has officially signed on as the face of the iconic French makeup, skincare and fragrance house, with her first campaign set to launch this summer.

Nyong’o breathed new life into the red carpet season with her knack for donning bold color and print, and fearlessly doing the same with her makeup—violet lipstick, cobalt blue eyeliner and a peachy rouged cheek—and don’t get us started on her flawless short cropped hair. She’s as natural in the role of beauty ambassador as she is on film. Paired with her humor, vivacity, and as evidenced by her Oscar acceptance speech, kindness of heart, Lupita’s star turn with Lancôme is a welcome, newsworthy turn this Friday.

Find Your Perfect Orange Lipstick For Spring

If you’ve been anywhere near a beauty blog you’ll know by now that an orange painted pout is the thing for spring. Running rampant on S/S 14 runways like Rag & Bone, DKNY and Prabal Gurung, and lit across the kissers of such noted celebs as Jessica Chastain, Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o — orange lipstick is all the rage. So here’s a little how-to to choosing which citrus hue is right for you.

For those ladies with darker skin, choosing any hue on the spectrum from bold orange to a softer bronze will be equally flattering — the key is keeping it your orange lipstick in the warm family.

Model and wife of John Legend, Chrissy Teigen nailed the trend with a bright orange hue for the 56th annual Pre-Grammys Gala that was perfect for bronze skin tones. The brighter the better!

Make-up artists recommend painting on a cooler blue-based orange lipstick for ladies like Camilla Belle, who have beautiful olive skin tones.

Warmer skin tones, like Drew Barrymore’s, are complimented by red-based orange hues.

While sticking to true bright orange colors will enhance the palest of ladies like our favorite Oscar-winner, Cate Blanchett.

From holiday cheer to this, awards season is awash with its own bounty of gifts — namely, the inspirational red carpet fashion and beauty cues, and the weekend’s Screen Actors Guild Awards was no exception.

Golden Globes 2014

Glitter and glamour, if last night’s Golden Globes are any evidence, 2014 is going to be a year of leading ladies killing it on the red carpet. From new faces like Lupita Nyong’o to fashion-muse favorites like Amy AdamsCate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence, television and film’s best and brightest dazzled at the annual kick of to awards-season, with a few themes that stood out from the rest. Our absolute favorite — the color red.

Worrying about blending into the red carpet background was so 2013, as the old and new guard, including Emma WatsonAmy AdamsLupita Nyong’oJulia Louis Dreyfus, Julie Delpy, all glowing in crimson, floor-length gowns.

Another big look was the monochromatic black/white theme seen on Jennifer Lawrence, Hayden Pantierre, Allison Williams, and Emilia Clarke.

And what would the Golden Globes be without a little (or a lot) of bling — metallics in silver and gold continued their reign on the red carpet on such luminous leading ladies as Michelle Dockery, Mila Kunis, Kate Mara, Naomi Watts, and Zoey Deschanel.
