After years of monochromatic hues and big, bold color blocking, it’s clear that complicated and chic prints are running the show for spring 2013. Earlier in the week we offered up Madewell’s swimsuit collaboration with that patroness of prints Mara Hoffman — but it seems that patterns are popping up on nearly everything. So if you thought your staple diet of denim was safe from this trend, we’re here to tell you you’re wrong.
Brit designer Mary Katrantzou is pairing her signature prints for spring in a collaboration with luxe denim darling Current/Elliot. Mary Katrantzou x Current/Elliott Spring 2013 is a gorgeous blue and lilac hued collection of dresses, skirts, shorts, tops, jackets and jeans (boyfriend and skinny styles) all done up in a dizzying array of prints. The line is currently only available via pre-order at Nordstrom, but soon my printed pretties… soon.read more
We hate to do this. We really do. But in the fashion game, the season is upon us — and that means swimsuits. *Sigh.
I know it’s freezing cold in most parts of the country, and gray and rainy in others, which means that Madewell’s latest swimwear — all prettily patterned by Mara Hoffman — are going to leave you pining ever-more passionately for a tropical get-away. It can’t be helped. The bikinis, maillots, and cut-out one pieces are too boho-cute to ignore — and the lookbook ain’t bad either. The one pieces are priced between $220 and $275, while the two pieces will set you back around $93 for the bottoms, and $132 for the tops. So add that to your vacations budget (we know you’ll be planning that this weekend,) — you can use our sneak peaks as inspiration.
Okay, it seems that all that excitement over the rumored collaboration between United Bamboo and Madewell was a little overblown — considering that today they unleashed a “collection” that consists of only five pieces. Yes. Five.
Sure, it’s a little anticlimactic, but let’s go all glass-half-full instead. This capsule is every inch the “cool” and “arty” line that one would expect from the two “quirky girl loving” labels — think print blouses inspired by Parisian artist Pier Fichefeux, boxy dresses and one fur-trimmed parka for those inevitable winter nights to come.
So five pieces is a little less than what we’d typically define as a collection, — these five might be just right.
Her star isn’t shining quite so bright as big sister Beyonce, but Solange Knowles is on her way up!
The latest celeb/brand pairing is a match made in heaven, as clothing label Madewell announced that Solange would star in their new fall 2012 campaign. The singer will fill the void left a few years back by Alexa Chung as the famous face of the brand as it continues its plans for expansion, with a planned 15 new stores in new markets, including California, Atlanta, Denver and the Midwest. Deemed by Beyonce as being “so Brooklyn,” Solange seems like a good fit for the brand who’s casual cool clothes are a staple of the hipster, quirky girl. And as a former “brand ambassador” for Armani, and a model for Rimmel London, this is another nice feather in Knowles celebrity spokesperson hat, her first contract with a major clothing label.
