From diamonds to pearls, a gals treasure trove of baubles is notably one of the best resources for accessorizing from season to season — but this particular season is taking the reflective quality of your jewelry box and putting it at your fingertips, eyelids, and brow by way of your makeup. Backstage watchers at this week’s NYFW have been treated to visions of glittery gold eyeshadow opalescent contouring, and pearly manicures.
Makeup artist Diane Kendal and hair stylist Odile Gilbert tricked the models at Jason Wu’s runway out in gold — to very expensive-looking effect. By layering finely milled gold glitter on top of an already smokey base, Kendal expertly paired the makeup with Gilbert’s use of gold hair accessories for a look that was more sophisticated than suburban kitch.
At 3.1 Philip Lim, makeup artist Fracelle Daly took inspiration from a pair of holographic sunglasses to create a look heavy in iridescent hues, highlights, and contouring down the chin and bridge of the nose.
And finally, over at Thakoon, the fawned over pearly nail polish that accompanied a collection dripping with pearls. By using polish brand Morgan Taylor’s “Adorned in Diamonds” under a coat of “Heaven Sent” across an elongated nail, manicurist Gina Edwards created a nail that played equal parts under-played and elegantly stated.read more
