Think Pink: October’s trendiest hue brings awareness to breast cancer

In a subconscious salute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, my radar has been on high alert for closet staples like silk camisoles, slip dresses, structured ladylike handbags and pointy-toed pumps —all tricked out in variations of this month’s most important hue: pink. One of my favorite colors on the spectrum, pink manages a range of delicate to girlish, fun-loving to Friday night while maintaining this month’s focus on a cause that’s touched so many lives. We’ve picked out some of the best pink hued items to don for October — from haute’s F/W collections to fast fashions “it” girl favorites, but we want to see your favorites too. Fall Makeup Is Awash In Eye Shadow

From dark copper and green to ethereal, silver and pinks, eyeshadow is making a serious statement on the runways — hinting at a change from the barely shadowed, cat-eye lined lids that are so popular right now. Prepare your palettes now, as Fall ’14 (and likely sooner) is going to be awash in eyeshadow.

Silver played a role in many designer’s F/W 14 makeup, adorning eyes in a juxtaposition of light and dark. Vera Wang sent her models down the runway with wispy, “almost fairy like” silver lids, accompanied by a nude lip and gunmetal manicures, while Donna Karan took her silver to the smokier side and paired it with a full 180 degree liner.

In a play on innocence, Narciso Rodriguez kept his shadow minimal and clean, using the lightest violet, green, and gold “to reflect the light.” Opening Ceremony opted for a more urban version of minimal by adding a gloss to a pink shadowed lid, and pairing it with a winter-flush blushed cheek.

Taking an opposite tact to minimal hues, Oscar de la Renta adorned his models with a dark copper, fully shadowed eye that was elegant and easy, while Rodarte opted for a circular and unconventional copper/brown palette.

Anna Sui’s “strong and fun” dark green and blue lids were also favored, with Derek Lam using similar hues in a more modern art style.

Trends: Fall 2013 Is Awash In Pink

Spring/summer’s bold tangerine has certainly enjoyed its time in the color-du-jour spotlight, but come fall, the orange hue will have to make way for next big thing.  Notably the single shade that stormed the recent runways: pink.

Typically reserved for spring dresses and baby girls, pink is buzzing for fall, from its most precocious iteration to a decidedly less-girly place on the color’s spectrum.  Critics raved over Miu Miu’s bold bubblegum and black polka-dotted numbers, Prada’s dark pink round-shouldered jackets, and Roksanda Ilincic’s saturated pale pink collection.  It seems everyone had something to offer on the color — J.Crew, Carven, Céline — from separates to outerwear and everything in between.  It’s official, come fall, pink is the new hue-to-do.

Jasnelle Monae Becomes New Face of CoverGirl


Looks like CoverGirl is getting edgier as we speak. First we announced PINK’s venture with the brand and now we’re excited to spill the beans about songstress Janelle Monae’s recently landed deal with the cosmetics line.

Known for her unique style, hair that lives and a voice that could make mountains crumble, Monae is a fresh new face for the brand. At 26, the star has already pressed her persona into the fashion world wearing a tuxedo and a bright smile.

“I believe it’s time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around me,” Monáe said in a press release. “Becoming a CoverGirl is truly and honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.”

Cover Girl’s New Beauty With an Edge Campaign Featuring PINK

America’s favorite bad girl just landed a huge gig with CoverGirl cosmetics. The punk, pop, gothic and glam singer PINK is the latest spokeswoman taking center stage for Cover Girl’s new fall campaign.



The new mom and queen of edge shows the strong and sexy side of beauty, promoting CoverGirl’s new mascara line. ”Joining a group of women who have always inspired me — to laugh out loud, let my guard down, or play around with my beauty look — is such an honor,” Pink said in a statement according to WWD. “I have a lot to celebrate. I called my new album ‘The Truth About Love,’ and the truth is that I have my beautiful family and baby girl, my new music and now my partnership with CoverGirl to love.”
