Award season took another step forward last night with the annual 57th Grammy Awards — yes, that means we’re about to sprinkle your Monday with our favorite rock-n-roll red carpet looks. From sheer sequins to basic black, sexy cutouts to chic pantsuits, the celebs ran the gamut at the music industries biggest night, mostly laying off the bold, bright colors and sticking to shades of black and white. (One notable exception was Rihanna who sported a massive pink dress.) And while we’re going to hold off on offering up Madonna and her derriére (you can find that aplenty on Dr. Google), we are going to give you a peak at what we think were the winners in the style department. Here we go!
On a whim I decided to tie a thin black ribbon around my neck the other night to compliment the deep red dress I was wearing and I’m realizing now that I’m not alone. Chokers are back and making a bold appearance on a number of the style set. From Emma Watson to Rihanna, chokers are turning up the form of wispy and open-ended gold bands, leather “belts” with metal clasps, layered in dazzling crystal, and simple black ribbons — all neatly wrapped around the neck. The look makes an equally bold statement to the many layered and length necklaces that are also trending for spring — with a decidedly more minimalistic effect. Here’s some choker-inspiration for you to draw from for the weekend!
We’ve got two word to cover both your lack of a Halloween costume because you waited too darned long to get one and Sunday’s extra hour to sleep in: pajama set. Let me explain.
Matching pajama sets have been the luxe sets loungewear of choice since Stella McCartney sent them careening down the runway in 2012. Celebs like Rihanna, Sophia Coppola and Alexa Chung have also rocked a few red-carpet wearing their p.j. sets and a slick set of heels, and don’t forget Coco Chanel’s obsession with them – FYI. So here’s the idea: Slide into your most stylish matching pajama set. Grab a stuffed bear, tousle your sexiest bedhead hair, and slip on a chic pair of stiletto’s (or jewel-toned smoking slippers). Et voila! You’re a very stylish sleepwalker. (I know, low on the creative scale. But high on style… so that should even things out.) And look who’s ready for Sunday’s extra hour of hibernation? You are. Win-Win. Here are some of our most coveted matching pajama sets for fall.read more
As someone who often eschews getting dressed for the luxuries of working at home, today’s tip is a continued riff on the trend that’s had fashion muses like Nicole Richie, Tilda Swinton and Rihanna over the moon since the look first appeared on runways in 2012: sleepwear as daywear. You know… pajama style.
Day or night, the style set is taking their pajamas out for a spin, pairing satin skirts with bulky sweaters, camis with dressy sweatpants (yes, that’s now a thing,) jewel-toned slippers with dress pants, and slip dresses with a pair of heels and a blazer. From comfy to silky, sleepwear is officially out of the bedroom for a perfectly undone and seriously chic daywear wardrobe redo. Here are some great celebrity all day pajama pieces to get the conversation started. And go.
Can a singular skirt really be considered a trend? If we’re judging by the mass of recent celeb sightings of the thigh-high slit skirt — we think we can!
The thigh-high slit skirt is a versatile little number that shows off the perfect amount of skin without going to over-the-top. Paired with a high necked tee or a starchy button down, this little number can go from day to night in a single flash of your lipstick. And while Altuzarra’s S/S 14 thigh-high slit skirt is a big celebrity favorite, seen on the likes of Lily Collins, Rihanna, and Elizabeth Olsen — there are plenty to choos from. It seems the uber-sexy thigh-high slit skirt is the “it” item for Spring and a great inspiration for start preparing your Summer sexy stems.
Today’s offering is the latest cover girl turn of pop icon Rihanna, who cuts a stylish figure on Vogue magazine’s March issue. The singer doled out sage styling advice paired with enviable beauty inspiration in an interview/photo spread for the illustrious fashion tome with quotes like, ”You can do anything with a great jacket, the bigger the better. You can have any silhouette underneath. It gives you an attitude. It makes a gown look cool.” and, “My jewelry’s all fake—from Claire’s. Or I get it from my mom’s boutique in Barbados. Her shop’s called FAB-U-LUS.”
Of course, not all of Rihanna’s advice is practical for real life. ““It’s not about pain. It’s about the commitment.” the popstar told the mag. “I say to myself, ‘I want to look like this,’ and worry about the pain later. I’ve had nights I had to tiptoe home and the balls of my feet wouldn’t even allow me to stand.” Commitment indeed.

The admiration between Balmain creative director, Olivier Rousteing and pop-star Rihanna has landed the singer a prime spot as the face of the labels 2014 spring campaign. On the heels of her signature collections for River Island, an impressive collection of designer clothing documented on Instagram, and her executive producer credit of the fashion reality show “Styled to Rock,” Rihanna‘s appreciation of fashion is apparent, with this current coup making it official — and in the case of Balmain mutual.
In a recent chat with WWD, Rousteing told the mag, “When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete. Rihanna embodies my vision of Balmain in this new campaign,” Rousteing said. “In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world.”
Shot in New York City, the campaign features the singer adorned in a variety of looks from Balmain’s latest efforts, including a pink-and-white Kimono style coat, and an edgy off the shoulder denim-and-gold chain outfit.read more
Some of you may have spent yesterday… um… overindulging in a cocktail or five, and thankfully today’s top trend is one that’s set to help nurse that holiday hangover. Pajama dressing is dispelling those silly over-achievers who actually encourage getting dressed in the morning. You saw sleepwear styles gracing the runways at both Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, and have watched in awe as celebrities like Rihanna, Rashida Jones, Michelle Williams, and Jessica Alba rock effortlessly rock the pj trend on the red carpet — and by, golly, it’s time you tried it too.
For the average gal, this “I just rolled out of bed” look leaves you in danger of looking sloppy and shapeless — neither of which was intended by the fashion heavies dolling out there version of the trend — so here’s how to get that relaxed look while still looking posh and polished.
1. Make sure the fit of your separates is tailored. The pants should be hemmed to graze the tops of the feet and the top should fit well at the shoulders and wrist — any overly bulky pieces will just look frumpy.
2. Avoid busy patterns on top, a simple silk tank or tee will help keep your silhouette clean, while the following the fit of rule number 1 will keep you from looking too busy or boxy.
3. Add a beautiful shoe, and we don’t necessarily mean a heel. A simple metallic flat or sandal will add a little razzle-dazzle without countering your effortlessly chic style.read more
