Razzle dazzle! The holiday season is rife with opportunities to pull out your dressy finest — from jewel-encrusted jackets to rich velvet capes — with the number one over-the-top trend ringing in with the flurry. Of course we mean feathers!
This season is a fanciful rush of feathers embellishing clothing, jewelry, handbags, and even shoes. This burlesque-ish fave is being favored by designers like Dries Van Noten, Alexander McQueen, and Paul Andrews and is popping on on some serious fashion heavies — does Anna Dello Russo ring a bell? Not to mention the divine feature in a recent issue of Marie Claire touting the party-girl merits of feathers.
But just how does one wear this fluttery trend? Keeping your pairing simple is a great way to embrace this latest look without resembling a Parisian showgirl. Under dress a full feather skirt with a simple knit sweater and bejeweled clutch, or pair a plain leather skirt with a feather embellished top to keep the look in the realm of wearable. Or don’t — just go on and don yourself from head to toe. In this season of cocktail soirees and opportunities for overkill, we’re pretty sure your friends will forgive you.
