TREND ALERT: Red Continues Her Reign As Cosmetics Queen Bee
If ever there was an ‘it’ girl in the color spectrum of cosmetics, we can be pretty sure her name would be RED. From the classic Revlon ‘Fire and Ice’ Nail lacquer’s staying power, to this season’s red lipstick resurgence, RED is hot and seemingly not about to release her hold over the beauty world anytime soon. And it’s not just pedicures and smirks that she’s adorning. No… red has made a bold move even further north. Further than highlighting cheekbones… keep going…
RED seems to be the shade-of-the-moment for (…wait for it…) eyeshadow.
What started with Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior’s use of Autumn’s red and orange toned eyeshadows in their 2010 Fall/Winter Collection, has launched a virtual epidemic in the 2011 Spring Fashion Shows. Moroccanoil Make-up Artist Peter Lueders use red shadow for Carolina Herrera; Shiseido also used this trend for Narciso Rodriguez; and red lids also appeared on Altuzarra’s runway. And we saw above how well Rihanna rocked this look. It’s a bold move, but with the right touch you’ll end up looking fabulously fashion forward and not like an extra on the set of ‘True Blood’?
And in keeping just-this-side-of-the-trend, Dolce & Gabbana has already released a gorgeous powder shadow compact containing this color of the moment (garnet) and an equally appealing and complimentary shade (purple) – a winning combo if I’ve ever seen one.
It’s always exciting to see bold new color choices spicing up the palates of make-up artists, runways and celebs alike – and it’s a brilliant pre-cursor of what we’ll all be wearing tres soon! I can’t wait to try it. Will you?
