Update: Back To The Future Sneakers Raise $5.6 Million

A couple of weeks ago I posted a story on the awesome new glow in the dark shoes from “Back to the Future,” that Nike would be releasing on Ebay to support The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The auction was very successful, and I have the pretty impressive results to share!

Nike decided to only release 1500 pairs of sneakers via Ebay for auction, over a 10 day period. In this very short amount of time, fans worldwide flocked to Ebay and spent in total, $5,695,190.53!  This may have been one of the biggest sneaker events in recent or modern history! Don’t quote me on that, but either way it was extremely successful. If my math is correct, that means the shoes, if split evenly in price, would have broken down to cost $3,796.79 per pair.

One last thing to remember is that Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, will be matching this number. So, the amount in total raised for Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s foundation is $11,390,381.10! Way to go Nike and Ebay! Just in case you like numbers, below is a breakdown of the day by day money raised.

Day 1 = $911,927.34
Day 2 = $647,539.91
Day 3 = $554,120.31
Day 4 = $508,077.50
Day 5 = $511,112.10
Day 6 = $492,481.97
Day 7 = $488,076.90
Day 8 = $499,851.16
Day 9 = $511,479.82
Day 10 = $570,523.52

Total = $5,695,190.53
