VALENTINO GET’S INTO THE GAP: Literally.

Valentino Designs for The GapWith the raging success of Lanvin ‘Hearts’ H&M Collaborative Collection, it seems fellow designers are taking note and jumping into the game.  Some quite unexpectedly.

Famed Italian fashion house Valentino has designed a seven piece capsule collection for iconic brand The Gap.  Already available in Milan and Rome, this collection is strictly (for now) in European stores (UK stores will launch the collections arrivals this Saturday – the day after our Black Friday).

Dynamic designer duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli (who took the reigns of the couture house from Valentino Garavani in 2008) used their immense creativity to feminize the uber-hot military trend that we’ve seen so much of this season.  Embellishing Gap’s neutral American sportswear, such as cargo pants, and canvas-ish dresses and parkas, is a bevy of ruffles and frills, and soft lady-like tailoring.

“We love mixing different cultures and we have been excited to mix Gap’s timeless essentials with out Roman culture of Couture.” Chiuri and Piccioli explained, “It brings together the iconic world of Valentino and Gap’s fashion staples, synthesizing the current trend of combining luxury with basics.”

Priced from £70 to £150 this is yet another example of affordable luxe that, we hope, will help lift The Gap out of the financial trouble (and design trouble – remember the unhappy logo miss-hap earlier this year?) they’ve been in lately.  I also, personally hope Valentino’s Capsule Collection will hit the states – pretty please?
