Louis Vuitton's Spring 2011 Paris Fashion Week Set

Arguably the single, most-coveted brand in the luxury market hierarchy is Louis Vuitton – and designer Marc Jacobs took that fact and ran, ran, ran with it at LV’s 2011 Spring Fashion Week show – the closing runway for 2011′s illustrious and oft-tumultuous season.

Despite it’s 10 a.m. curtain, Jacobs hired a host of hostesses to hand out vodka shots and caviar canapes to get the audience in the over-indulged spirit of the day. Ever so dramatically setting the scene, he recreated his runway as the lobby of an elegant hotel with the models entering the runway from an “elevator” with the assistance of old-fashioned “hotel porters.”

“We were thinking about obsession, fetishism, and we thought about an old hotel, with its chambermaids and the affairs that go on there, the crimes and scandals. And we just wanted to reveal all the amazing creatures who passed through there,” designer Marc Jacobs told journalists backstage after the show.

And once those elevator doors opened, some amazing creatures did abound: Kate Moss (smoking despite France’s banning of public cigarette – hey if Gaga did it!), Naomi Campbell, Amber Valetta and Carolyn Murphy. Jacobs called in the old super-model guard who sashayed down the runway in fetish-inspired fashions such as, revealing shorts, sheer blouses, cagey leather and patent boots, peter pan collar stylings, and plenty of fur embellishments. And let’s not forget about the coveted Louis Vuitton handbags which, at times, were handcuffed to the models.

All in all, Vuitton and Jacobs made quite a showing, with even Times critic Cathy Horyn’s approval, who called it “one of [Jacobs's] most satisfying in a while.” And with that kind of approval… who needs understatement?
